Details: Historic Ard Rudah is Gaelic for "High Promontory". It was named by William MacGregor in the early 1870s. The garden was designed by Baron Von Mueller who was also involved in the design of the Royal Melbourne Botanic Gardens. Each season brings a special joy: brilliant autumn colours, masses of hellebores and snowfalls in winter, and beautiful flowers in-spring. Ferny Creek runs through the property and is crossed by two beautiful old stone bridges. It flows through a tree fern gully. There is a lily pond surrounded by artistic stonework done by Layton Jones and Joe Taylor. There is a maple walk at the bottom of the garden, a daffodil meadow at the front of the house, banks of azaleas lining the drive, a camellia walk leading to the house, peony beds in front of the house, and hundreds of meters of box hedges. In front of the house on the lawn is a magnificent copper beech at least 100 feet high. There is also a giant linden and European ash on the front lawn. Giant oaks and sycamores form a woodland carpeted by bluebells in spring.
