Entries are open for this year’s competition that culminates with a massed display at the
Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show in the Carlton Gardens, Melbourne from the 27th March to the 31st March 2019

 

The competition is open to members and groups affiliated with the RHSV. Youth groups, schools and member’s children are encouraged to enter.

 

 The arrangement of the basket is up to you.  It is up to your imagination to create a WINNING BASKET.

 

We supply the basket, potting mix and also provide you some “Starter” plants to get you going.

 

It is an easy, fun thing to do for you, your family and your club.

 

Great prizes are available and you get complimentary ticket for the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show to visit your basket and see it on display

Conditions of Entry

 

Competition Entry

Entries will only be accepted from financial members of the RHSV or the direct family, from a group affiliated with the RHSV or a school or youth group.

Entries are to be received by the 6th October 2018.

Late entries may be accepted at the discretion of the RHSV Committee.

Numbers of entries permitted are:

A         An Affiliated Society, Group or Club    - one entry.

B         An Individual RHSV Member               - one entry

C         Members under 18 years of age         - one entry

D         A School/Institution/Youth Group      - one entry/class

E          A Family Membership may apply for TWO entries.

F          A Family Membership with children under 18 years of age may apply for an entry for each person (4 baskets max).

Entries must be staged in the Basket and Liner supplied.  No other basket or liner combination will be eligible.

Plants must be living and growing in the potting mix within the basket.

There are no restrictions on the plants used other than they must not be a declared noxious weed or relate to any specific limitation that may arise (ie Myrtle Rust),  in which case this will be made known as soon as is possible by placing notice on the RHSV Web site at www.rhsv.org.au.

Accessories may be used but must be complimentary to the basket design and not predominate.

Entries may be refused at the discretion of the RHSV.

The entries will be judged in the sections as follows:

3                    Best Exhibit - Under 18 years.

4                    Best Exhibit – School/Youth Group

5                    Best Exhibit - TAFE

6                    Best Exhibit – Colour

7                    Best Exhibit – Texture

8                    Best Exhibit  - Innovative Presentation

9                    Best Exhibit – Representing a specialist plant or plant group

10                Best Exhibit – Culinary, Herbs, Kitchen.

11                Best Exhibit – Australian Native Plants

12                Best Exhibit  - Cacti & Succulents

13                Best Exhibit – Bonsai

 

Staging of Entries Exhibitors are to deliver their entries to the competition site at the Exhibition Carlton Gardens, Melbourne.

Entries that have visible signs of disease or other cultural problems may be refused entry. 

 

Metropolitan Entries:  These entries are to be delivered to the competition site on Saturday 23rd or Sunday 24th March 2019 between 10.00am to 4 pm.

 

Country Entries: It is preferable that local arrangements be made to get the entries to the competition site on Saturday 23rd or Sunday 24th March 2019 between 10.00am to 4 pm. The RHSV may be able to facilitate this action. Please contact the Secretary.

Entries may be collected from specified country centres. In this case it is the responsibility of the exhibitor to deliver the exhibit to the specified centre as directed. The Secretary must be notified by the exhibitor no later than the 2nd March 2019 if they are doing this.

Entries collected in this process will be subject to an all care but no responsibility policy.

 

General Entry Management: All entries will be “staged” by the RHSV.

Competitors will not be allowed into the competition site unless with specific permission of the RHSV and the MIFGS management.  This is an OH&S requirement for your own safety. A Hi Visibility Vest is required.

After 4pm Sunday 24 March 2019 only RHSV Committee members or their appointed representatives will be permitted to maintain the baskets for the duration of the show.

The baskets will be cared for during the show on the basis of all care and no responsibility. 

The RHSV will take all reasonable steps to maintain the exhibits in as good a condition as possible.

The baskets will remain on display for the duration of the show.

No entry may be removed from the site without the permission of the RHSV Committee or the appointed representative.

The RHSV Committee reserves the right to remove an exhibit without notice or reason.

The decision of the judges is final.  No objections will be considered.

 

Collection of Entries at the End of Show  Entries are to be collected from the competition site at the conclusion of the show. They can be collected on Sun 31st March after 4.30pm. Please note the MIFGS Management have conditions relating to removal of exhibits prior to the conclusion of the show. This will be formalised nearer to the event.

Baskets can be collected after the exhibition on Mon 1st April between 10am – 4pm and on Tues 2nd April between 10am and 1pm.

Access to the competition site after the exhibition is relatively easy and should not deter exhibitors. If collecting baskets after the show please provide Hi Visibility Vests or access may be refused. Please discuss with the RHSV Secretary.

Baskets not collected by 1pm Tues 2nd April will be disposed of in a manner approved by the RHSV.

Arrangements can be made for Baskets to be returned after the show. A charge of $40/basket applies. If the baskets are to be returned this way the Secretary must have notification in writing and payment of $40/basket to be returned before the commencement of the event.

 

 Awarding of Prizes

Trophies, Awards and Prize Money will be presented at the RHSV Gardeners Day Out to be held in June 2019. Winners of sections are to attend.
